Privacy & Terms

Last updated: 16 June 2026

This page explains how splicing.gg handles your personal data (our Privacy Policy) and the rules for using the site (our Terms of Service). splicing.gg is an unofficial, community-run fan site for Voidling Bound. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to both documents below.

Privacy Policy Terms of Service Community Rules

Privacy Policy

We are committed to protecting your privacy and we follow the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). We collect as little data as possible, we never sell it, and we use no advertising or third-party tracking. This policy tells you exactly what we collect, why, and the control you have.

1. Who we are

splicing.gg (“we”, “us”, “the site”) is an independent, community-run fan project for the game Voidling Bound, operated from Portugal. For the purposes of the GDPR, the data controller is the operator of splicing.gg. You can reach us about any privacy matter at privacy@splicing.gg.

2. What this policy covers

This policy covers the personal data we process when you visit splicing.gg, create an account, and post builds, comments and other content. It does not cover external sites we link to (such as the official wiki, or the donation platforms on our Support page), which have their own policies. If you choose to donate, the payment is handled entirely by that external platform — we never see or store your payment details.

3. The data we collect

We only collect what the site needs to work:

  • Account data — your username, email address and a password. Your password is never stored in readable form: we keep only a one-way bcrypt hash of it.
  • Optional profile data — a short bio and avatar, if you choose to add them.
  • Content you create — the builds, comments, likes and reports you make, and the in-app notifications they generate, stored so the site can display them.
  • A session — when you sign in we store a small session record so you stay logged in.

4. What we deliberately do NOT collect

Private by design — we do not:

  • store your IP address in our database, or keep logs that profile you;
  • use any third-party analytics, advertising, tracking pixels or external scripts — there are none on the site (the only exception is an optional build video you choose to play, see section 6). We do keep a small first-party, anonymous count of page views, visitors and aggregate reading time ourselves, with no IP and no profiling, described in section 6;
  • collect your real name, postal address, phone number, date of birth or payment details;
  • send you marketing — in fact we do not send you any email at all (see section 12).

5. Why we use your data, and our legal bases

We process your data only when the GDPR gives us a lawful basis:

  • To provide your account and the service — contract (Art. 6(1)(b)): creating and securing your account, signing you in, and publishing the builds and comments you choose to post.
  • To keep the site safe and working — legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)): preventing abuse and spam, rate-limiting, moderating reported content, and protecting users and the service. We use the least data needed and balance this against your rights.
  • Your language preference — legitimate interests: remembering whether you chose English or Portuguese.
  • Legal obligations — (Art. 6(1)(c)): where we must act on a valid legal request.

6. Cookies and local storage

We use the smallest possible set of cookies and browser storage. There are no advertising or tracking cookies.

  • splicing.sid — essential session cookie: keeps you signed in. HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, sent only over HTTPS in production, and expires after 30 days. It is set only once you have a session (e.g. after signing in).
  • lang — functional: remembers your language choice (English or Portuguese) for up to a year. It holds nothing but the language code.
  • va — anonymous analytics: holds nothing but the current date, so we can count how many distinct browsers visit on a given day without identifying anyone. HttpOnly, SameSite=Lax, and it expires within two days. It stores no ID and no IP, and is never shared.
  • cookie-ok — browser local storage, not a cookie: a single flag stored on your device so the cookie notice does not show again. It never leaves your browser.

Our analytics are first-party, anonymous and aggregate: we count page views, unique daily visitors, how long pages are actively read, and the occasional share, and we keep the host a visit came from (for example "google.com"), your browser’s language, and the country of your visit (resolved from your IP at our web server and discarded on the spot) — never the full address, never a stored IP, never a per-person history. Because these cookies are strictly necessary, functional, or anonymous audience measurement limited to our own site, the law does not require a consent wall; we show a short notice for transparency, and you can clear them anytime in your browser.

Build videos (YouTube): some builds include a YouTube video. We do not contact YouTube until you press play, so by default nothing is sent to Google. When you press play, we load YouTube’s privacy-enhanced player (youtube-nocookie.com) inside the page; at that point YouTube may set its own cookies and receive your IP address, under Google’s privacy policy. If you never press play, YouTube is never loaded.

7. How long we keep your data

  • Account data — kept while your account exists; removed when you delete your account.
  • Content you post — kept until you delete it or your account. Deleting your account also deletes your builds and comments.
  • Sessions — expire after 30 days and are pruned automatically; signing out ends a session immediately.
  • Reports and notifications — kept while useful for moderation, then removed when the related content or account is deleted.

8. Who can see or receive your data

We do not sell or rent your data, and we never share it for advertising. It may be seen or handled only as follows:

  • Other users — content you choose to make public (your username, public builds, comments and the likes you give) is visible to anyone. Your email is never shown publicly; it is used only to sign you in.
  • Our hosting provider — the server and database run on infrastructure located in the United States, acting as our processor under contract and only to host the site (see International data transfers below).
  • Legal requests — we may disclose data where required by a valid legal obligation.

9. International data transfers

Your data is stored and processed on servers located in the United States. As the US is outside the EU/EEA, this is an international transfer. We rely on our hosting provider's Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) — the safeguards approved by the European Commission — as the legal basis for this transfer. We keep collected data to a minimum (essentially your account email and the content you create) and use only first-party, anonymous analytics (no IP), with no third-party tracking.

10. How we keep your data secure

We take reasonable, modern measures to protect your data:

  • passwords are stored only as a one-way bcrypt hash — we never see or store your actual password;
  • all traffic is served over HTTPS, with a strict Content Security Policy and secure, HttpOnly session cookies;
  • CSRF protection on every state-changing action, and rate limits on sign-in, posting and likes to deter abuse;
  • all database access uses parameterised queries to prevent injection.

No online service can be perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data safe and to fix issues quickly.

11. Your rights under the GDPR

You have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you;
  • rectify inaccurate data;
  • erase your data (“right to be forgotten”);
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format;
  • withdraw consent at any time where we rely on it.

You can exercise the two most important rights yourself, right now:

  • Export your data (account + builds) as JSON: available in your account after signing in.
  • Delete your account and all associated content: available in your account after signing in.

For any other request, email privacy@splicing.gg and we will respond within 30 days.

12. Email and communications

splicing.gg does not send you any email. We run no newsletters, and there is currently no verification or password-reset email. Your email address is used solely as a way to sign in. All notifications (for example, a reply to your comment) appear inside the site, never in your inbox.

13. Children and minimum age

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account, because registering means giving us an email address. Browsing splicing.gg is open to everyone — the content is suitable for all ages (no mature or explicit material is allowed) — so younger players are welcome to read and explore, ideally with a parent or guardian, without registering.

If you are between 13 and the age of digital consent in your country, please make sure a parent or guardian is aware. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

14. Automated decisions and profiling

We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects. Build rankings (Top, Trending) are calculated from public likes using a simple, transparent formula and are not based on profiling you.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves or the law changes. When we make a material change, we will update the “last updated” date above and, where appropriate, highlight it on the site. Continuing to use splicing.gg after a change means you accept the updated policy.

16. Contact and complaints

For any privacy question, or to exercise your rights, email privacy@splicing.gg. If you are in the EU/EEA and believe we have not handled your data properly, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Portugal this is the CNPD — Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (cnpd.pt).

Terms of Service

These Terms are the agreement between you and splicing.gg. They work together with our Community Rules, which form part of these Terms.

1. Agreement to these terms

By creating an account or otherwise using splicing.gg, you agree to these Terms of Service and to our Community Rules. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

2. Who we are — an unofficial fan project

splicing.gg is an unofficial, non-commercial fan project built by the community for players of Voidling Bound. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hatchery Games. We are not the official site and we do not speak for the game’s developers.

3. Eligibility and registration

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. When you register you must give accurate information and keep your email up to date. Keep to one account per person; do not create accounts to evade a ban or to manipulate the site.

4. Your account and its security

You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your password safe. Choose a strong password (at least 8 characters) and do not share your login. Tell us promptly if you think your account has been accessed without permission. You can delete your account at any time from your account page or the Privacy section above.

5. Community Rules and acceptable use

Our Community Rules set out how to behave on splicing.gg and are part of these Terms. In short, when using the site you agree not to:

  • harass, threaten, or post hateful, discriminatory or abusive content;
  • post NSFW, explicit or otherwise age-inappropriate material;
  • share private or personal information about yourself or others (no doxxing);
  • spam, advertise, or self-promote without permission;
  • impersonate staff, other users or Hatchery Games, or present the site as official;
  • manipulate likes or rankings, or use fake or duplicate accounts;
  • post content you have no right to use, or anything illegal, malicious or harmful;
  • abuse, probe, overload or attempt to break the site or its security.

The full list is in the Community Rules below.

6. Your content and the licence you give us

You keep ownership of the builds, comments and other content you create (“your content”). So that the site can work, you grant splicing.gg a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, display and share your content on the site and its related pages (for example in listings, rankings, and social preview cards) for as long as you keep it posted. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies already cached or shared by others.

You confirm that your content is yours to post, that it does not break these Terms or anyone’s rights, and that you are responsible for it. We do not claim ownership of your content and we will not sell it.

7. Likes, rankings and community signals

Likes and rankings are community signals, not facts about the game. Any “strength”, affinity or ranking shown is a community heuristic — it is not official, does not come from Hatchery Games, and does not simulate real combat. You may like a build once; self-likes do not count. Do not manipulate these signals.

8. Reporting, moderation and enforcement

Anyone can report content that breaks the rules using the report button. Our staff may, at their discretion, edit or remove content, hide reported material, or suspend or ban accounts that break these Terms or the Community Rules.

A ban blocks sign-in and posting. For transparency and community history, content from a banned account is generally kept rather than deleted, unless it itself breaks the rules. We aim to be fair, but cannot guarantee every decision will please everyone.

9. Intellectual property and game data

Our site: the splicing.gg name, layout, code and visual identity belong to the project, and do not use or derive from official Voidling Bound assets (logo, typography, creatures, key art).

The game: Voidling Bound and all related names, characters and imagery are © Hatchery Games and remain their property. We use them only to describe and discuss the game, under fan-project / fair-use principles, and claim no rights over them.

Game data: factual game information on the site (species, evolutions, modules, abilities, perks, catalyzers) is sourced from the community wiki voidlingbound.wiki.gg and used under CC BY-SA 4.0, attributed per that licence. If you are a rights holder with a concern, contact privacy@splicing.gg.

10. Links to other sites

The site links to external pages, such as the official wiki. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, policies or availability. Visiting them is at your own risk and under their terms.

11. Availability and “as is” service

splicing.gg is a free, volunteer-run fan project provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind. We do not promise the site will be uninterrupted, error-free or always available, and we may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it at any time. We are not liable for builds, rankings or data being lost, changed or unavailable.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law, splicing.gg and its operator are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential damage, or for loss of data or content, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the site, or from content posted by users. Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including your statutory consumer and data-protection rights.

13. Suspension and termination

You may stop using the site and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you break these Terms or the Community Rules, or to protect the site and its users. Sections that by their nature should survive (such as intellectual property, disclaimers and limitation of liability) continue to apply after your account ends.

14. Changes to the site and to these terms

We may update the site and these Terms as the project grows or the law changes. When we make a material change to the Terms, we will update the “last updated” date and, where appropriate, note it on the site. If you keep using splicing.gg after a change, you accept the updated Terms.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal and applicable European Union law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of any mandatory laws of your country of residence. Disputes that cannot be resolved amicably fall to the competent courts of Portugal, unless mandatory law gives you the right to your local courts.

16. Contact

Questions about these Terms? Email privacy@splicing.gg. For how we handle your data, see the Privacy Policy above.

Community Rules

  4. No NSFW or explicit content
    Keep everything suitable for all ages. No explicit or adult content in usernames, build names, descriptions, comments or images.

    Don’t flood, repeat-post, or share advertising, referral or affiliate links. Unsure about sharing something? Ask the staff first.
  7. No impersonation
    Don’t pretend to be staff, another member, or Hatchery Games, and don’t present this fan site as official.
  8. No manipulation or cheating
    No vote manipulation, like farming, fake or duplicate accounts, or any attempt to game the rankings.
  9. Keep it original and honest
    Don’t pass off other people’s builds or words as your own. Credit sources and the community wiki where due.

  11. Nothing illegal or harmful
    No piracy, malware, scams, or links to illegal content. No threats or incitement to harm.
  12. Use the site in good faith
    One account per person under normal use. Don’t abuse forms, exploit bugs, or try to break the site. If you find an issue, report it instead.
  13. Keep it understandable
    Post in English or Portuguese so the community and moderators can follow along.
  14. Report, don’t retaliate
    See something against the rules, or that makes you feel unsafe? Use the report button and let the staff know. Don’t take it into your own hands.
  15. Moderation is final
    Staff may edit or remove content and suspend accounts that break these rules. A ban blocks sign-in and posting; existing public content may remain. Decisions are made to keep this a welcoming space.
